Changing a doorknob can get a little trickier that one might think. However with a bit of patience, few tools and right approach, it does not have to be a hard job to do.

Instructions:

• At first, remove the two screws on the face plate and then two screws on the doorknob plate. These screws basically hold the interior parts of the knob. Doorknobs should now be loose so just pull them off the door. The whole mechanism inside the door should come out quite easily.

• Replace the old mechanism with a new one. Keep in mind that it is important to place the new mechanism in the same order that you removed the old one. Insert it inside the hole and screw the face plate to the door. Make sure that the slanted side faces towards the direction the door closes in.

• Insert the two doorknob parts on the both sides of the door and ensure they are completely aligned. Hold both parts of the doorknob at the same time while tightening the long screws that will hold the doorknobs at their place. This is actually the hardest part of changing a doorknob. Some doorknob kits come with the instruction sheet, so read it as it might be very helpful.

Sometimes, people feel intimidated by the process of changing the doorknob, but with a bit of attention and proper technique, it can be as easy as changing a light bulb. Plus they do not have to pay a professional handyman.
